Stop the Bleed

The Stop the Bleed class offered by Cathedral City Fire & EMS is a critical training program designed to educate community members on how to respond to traumatic bleeding emergencies. Initiated as a national campaign, “Stop the Bleed” aims to reduce preventable deaths resulting from uncontrolled bleeding, a leading cause of death in emergencies. This course provides participants with the knowledge and skills to act quickly and effectively in situations where someone is injured and requires immediate assistance.

Detailed Description of the Stop the Bleed Class

1. Course Objectives:
    The primary goal of the Stop the Bleed class is to empower individuals to recognize life-

threatening bleeding situations and take appropriate action to control the bleeding before professional help arrives. Key objectives include:

    - Understanding the importance of immediate action in bleeding emergencies. - Learning to assess the situation and determine the proper response.
    - Gaining hands-on skills in various bleeding control techniques.

2. Training Curriculum:
    The Stop the Bleed class covers essential topics, including: - Overview of traumatic bleeding and its causes.
- The role of bystanders in emergency situations.
- Techniques for controlling bleeding, including:

- Applying direct pressure.
- Utilizing dressings and bandages.
- Implementing pressure points.
- Using tourniquets safely and effectively. 

3. Hands-On Skills Practice:
     Participants engage in practical, hands-on training, allowing them to practice bleeding control

techniques in a realistic environment. This component is vital in reinforcing learning and building confidence in applying these skills during a real-life emergency.

4. Recognizing Emergency Situations:
     The class emphasizes the importance of recognizing when a situation requires immediate

intervention. Participants learn how to assess the severity of injuries and prioritize actions based on the specific circumstances.

5. Discussion of Additional Resources:
     Participants are provided with information about local resources, medical assistance, and

community programs that further enhance their understanding of emergency response and trauma care.
