Headed by Robert VanNortrick, the Prevention Division manages two programs: Fire Prevention and Code Enforcement. This division is responsible for preventing and reducing fire losses, ensuring compliance with fire codes and city ordinances, and increasing safety for residents, visitors and business owners throughout the city. The goal of the Prevention division is to safeguard the city from fire dangers and environmental hazards through enforcement of fire regulations and public education.

Development Guidelines / Fire Code
Cathedral City Development Guidelines set forth the minimum requirements for fire protection systems, emergency access/gates, and fire apparatus access roads. This document also explains the minimum design, installation, testing, and inspection procedures in the City of Cathedral City.

In some areas of Cathedral City, the Fire Department must conduct a review of nearly all construction projects to ensure proper code compliance.
